Beyond the work
A little more human.
The rest of this site is about what I build. This corner is about what stays with me when the laptop closes: the places I wander, the music I return to, the animals I stop for, and the kind of room I hope to help create around me.
The kind of room I do my best work in.
- Low ego, high competence.
- Being realistic without becoming harsh.
- Noticing a mistake and resolving it without embarrassing the person who made it.
- Focusing on the right outcome rather than winning the disagreement.
- Professionalism does not have to mean coldness.
- Keeping kindness and a quiet sense of humour, even when things are difficult.
Small moments, kept on purpose.
- On repeat
- Linkin Park is the constant. Around them, the rotation moves through Radiohead, The Smiths, The Smile, Tears for Fears, The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Tool, Keane, Coldplay, Sleep Token, Sade, The Weeknd, Teddy Swims, Aurora and Metronomy. There is also plenty of room for deep house, electronic sets, classical music and the occasional Justin Bieber song.
- On screen
- Peep Show and The Inbetweeners are my comfort comedies. I grew up with Fox Kids and Jetix, still enjoy returning to The Lord of the Rings, and usually make room for science fiction.
- At home
- I share my home with four cats, so calling myself a cat person may be an understatement.
- Outside
- I like hiking and long walks—the greener, quieter and slightly more uphill, the better.
- A work in progress
- I was vegetarian for about a year and a half. It was not something I could sustain at the time, but I would like to find my way back to it someday.
